(This is another older post from my other blog that I find worth posting.)

I was going home last night at about 7pm after 2 hours of basketball games with high school pals at Westwoods subdivision in Sambag, Jaro. I was sitting in the front seat of an Oton Derecho jeep. Then this guy sat beside me. He was drunk. He was passed out beside me and he smelled like beer. It was only 7-o'clock in the evening and this guy is already wasted.
I don't drink alcoholic beverages. Haven't had beer all my life. Had a shot or two of whatever you call em--gin?-- when I was a naive high school kid. Didn't like it so I never had any more of those kind of crap. Anyways, people often conclude that I don't drink because of religion or because I'm not allowed to do so.
No.
I don't drink alcohol because I chose not to. I've seen an uncle of mine let alcohol get the best of him. Now he's a bum who recently got hospitalized because he fell off his motorcycle... because he was drunk. I've seen friends get drunk and do stupid things. (uhh, lie down on the concrete floor of your high school corridor at night during Christmas party?).
I don't like what alcohol does to their minds and I sure as hell don't want that to happen to me. That's why I refuse to drink alcoholic beverages. Plus I value my liver very much.
Obviously, those who drink will find an excuse to defend their past time. They'd say you can drink without getting drunk. It's not about control.
I can have fun without alcohol, thank you very much.
This is about discipline. It's about restraint. I'm out to show people alcohol isn't the answer to all your problems.
I simply refuse to take in alcohol because I don't want to end up wasted in the parking lot of a club.
I simply refuse to take in alcohol because I love my liver (it's liver lover, boy).
I simply refuse to take in alcohol because it's my protest against society's definition on how to be cool.
I simply refuse to take in alcohol because not taking in alcohol is right for me.
I don't take in alcohol because I am straightedge.
Call me whatever you want.
There will come a time when my being sober will reign supreme over your drunken state.
I'll be there, watching, waiting for you to make one wrong move.
I'll be glad when the police apprehends you for drunk driving. hahahahaha
Stay sober.
Get the edge.
