I woke up very early today because I have a 7 am class, which is World Literature. We're supposed to have a play about Jomo Kenyatta's short story The Gentleman of the Jungle. So, of course, I had hurry so that I won't be late for the said class (again).
But...
I was surprised to see I was the only one entering the gate once I arrived school. It's 7am -- usually the gate is jam packed with students who are in a hurry to get to class on time. I checked the other gate, and it too was empty. Odd.
Then it dawned upon me that the "NO CLASS TOMORROW" announcement by students yesterday was legitimate. I payed no attention to it because students made the announcement, not anybody from the faculty. And those students were members of Anakbayan, calling students to join the protest against Budget Cut (did you know there was actually an increase in the national budget for State Universities and Colleges? Still these "idealists" claim there is a budget cut... But that's a totally different story). I mean, would I really take their word for it? Of course not, they're students like me. Anybody can say "WALA CLASS KAY MA PROTESTA KITA". But of course only people with authority can truly declare suspension of classes.
And so, to make the long story short, someone authorized to suspend classes (the University President, I guess) did suspend classes. But I went to school anyway. And clad in my school uniform, too, I might add. No classes. No classes!!!
I had to find out the hard way.
